Sunshine and smiles

That’s what this week feels like!  It’s been unseasonably warm, and we’ve been rather characteristically busy, but with all such fun things and the kids have been so delightful that we’ve been smiling and bright;y as the sun all week.  If we weren’t us, we’d annoy me with how cheery we are!

Last Sunday for the long weekend, we went to LACMA.  It was a beautiful day and we spent it rolling down the hill before we went inside to the fantastic MetropolisII exhibit.  If you visit us while this is still running (through September, I think), I have a feeling you will be dragged to this.  Jacob could live there.  It’s a cool city built with kids building toys with cars and trains whizzing through it.  The build aspect plus the constant motion fascinated Jacob (and his Dad).  Mol and I liked it too, but not to that degree…  Then the next day we went to Gladstones for lunch and a long stroll on the beach.

We had a wonderful time.  Again, if you visit, this will be on the agenda!  We all are dying to go back (me for the beach walk, Mol for the ginormous chocolate cake).  They wrapped the kid’s leftovers like a penguin (the leftover fish and chips) and a “sea rock” for the cake (actually, it was just wrapped in a big lump of foil, so the frosting wouldn’t get squished, but they demanded to know what shape it was in, so we told them a sea rock, and that made them perfectly happy).

Mol couldn’t drop the bossy attitude for even a minute.

And we all loved the rock climbing.  Jacob pointed to a sign, as he was standing on the biggest and slipperiest rock as we were leaving and asked what it said.  “No climbing on the rocks,” we read aloud.  Whoops!

Tuesday we made Jambalaya for Mardi Gras, which both kids ate (Jacob with the shrimp picked out and given to Mol), and then last night we went to the Wee Gee exhibit at MOCA and for sushi in little Tokyo.  That was awesome – the food was great, but what was delightful was watching the kids wrap the sushi chefs around their fingers by thanking them for each roll they made (and getting some beautifully cut swan apples as a thank you for the thank yous!) and to watch Moll discover her favorite thing since chocolate – lamb chops!  She stole them from Chuck and literally sucked every last gram of meat from the bone, and looked up as us and said, “We can eat that again!  I just LOVE meat on a bone!”
