Everybody Busy

I feel awful that it’s been so long since I posted anything, and now that I do, it’s just a quick update without even pictures.  But everyone has just been sick- nothing bad, just these lingering coughs and runny noses that means no one sleeps well, I don’t want the kids around too many other kids to catch something else, and we’ve all been tired and busy.  But everyone is on the last legs of the colds, feeling and sleeping tons better, and with the holidays coming up, we’ve got a million times we’re going to take a million pictures, so we’ll more than make up for recent dearth of photos.

Most recent events are a super cute haircut for Jacob, that makes him both look tons older and even more like his daddy.  Lots of walks and playing at the park.  Lots of listening to music and singing.  (Currently listening on CD- Bob Marley in the car and Paul Simon in the house are the favorites.  “Over the River” is current favorite sing along song- probably because I tried to get them to like it since it’s Thanksgiving-y AND we’re actually going to Grandma’s house in a week.  Now I’m sorry they love it so much, because they demand umpteen choruses repeatedly…  and it turns out there aren’t a lot of words to the song, so when you sing it over and over, you get sick of it fast.  And sing along game is Ring Around the Rosy, though the kids won’t play it together, so we have to take turns.)

They talk so much it’s almost scary.  Whole sentences all the time, and longer words every day.  A couple of my favorites are that they learned “different” and “coming” in relation to songs on a CD, so when they don’t like a certain song, they can demand “different ABBA”, and when there’s a pause between songs, they can reassure each other that “Bob coming”.  They’ve banged on the CD player so much and scratched up all the CD’s that cleaning a CD before it works is de rigueur.  So much so that Molly constantly frustrates Jacob by pausing a CD, taking it out and rubbing it on her shirt, even when it’s playing.  And the other day when they couldn’t get a CD to play, Jacob started crying, ripped the CD out and threw it at me, demanding, “Clean Paul Simon Mommy!”.  Oh, and their love of all things guitar has now extended to identifying guitar riffs in any song we listen to, and as soon as the guitar part stops, demanding, “More guitar” very emphatically.

One of the cutest language moments he had lately was at the park.  Swinging is Jacob’s absolute favorite thing, and he was really mad when I made him get down to give other kids a turn.  Later, I put him back on the swings when they were free, and I was really surprised when he said “All done” after just a few minutes.  I asked if he was sure, and he said, “Other kid turn Mommy.”  Seriously, does that break your heart?

And Molly got very excited to go to the library yesterday.  Everytime I said “library” she said, “Different books!  More David.   More pigeon.  More gorilla!”  Girl knows what she wants and how to ask for (demand) it.

Hopefully we’ll get a few pictures taken and up this week…
